Smt. Sungita Sharma, Chief Commissioner, CGST & Central Excise Zone, Mumbai, belongs to the 1986 batch of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Central Excise).
In a career spanning 32 plus years, she has held various positions, including that as Principal ADG (Vigilance), West Zonal Unit at Mumbai; Principal Commissioner Pune-II Commissionerate; and Commissioner Pune-III Commissionerate.
In 2015 she has chaired the Committee assigned by CBEC to work out the risk parameters for return scrutiny in Service Tax for ACES. When GST was rolled out in 2017, she has been nominated by the GST Council Secretariat to co-chair the Sectoral Working Group on GST for Travel and Tourism along with Shri. Raghavendra Singh, Commissioner State GST, Madhya Pradesh.
Her junior and middle-level management experience in the field relates to tax collection and enforcement work in Ghaziabad, Delhi and Haryana. Thereafter, she has worked as a Director with the Central Board of Excise and Customs on the department’s tax-related litigation in the Supreme Court. On deputation under the Central Staffing Scheme from 2006-2012 as Director with the Ministry of Defence, she has worked on Defence industry promotion issues including FDI and defence industry policy, private sector participation in defence production, defence exhibitions such as the high-profile air exposition, Aero India, and offset credit banking.
For a distinguished record of service, on the occasion of Republic Day 2006, she has been honoured by her department with the Presidential Award for Appreciation.
